There is a lot of truth in the article linked below; however, it is often done with a very superficial view of the culture driving innovation.

Innovation at its core is values-based; solution-based, knowledge-based and skills-based. So it is truly more driven by people first and finance after. If you have the finances and available persons are not compatible with specific projects, then you would surely be wasting money.

Values-based – This is all about what a person values most, their passions, purpose, ethics, morals, mindset etc.

There are numerous problems waiting to be solved. For this to occur, one must have a sound handle on the knowledge of a subject, where they can identify differences in specializations within fields; otherwise, they believe that an area may just be a small list while the information is actually really vast and often intertwined with other areas, and underpins whether a decision made towards a solution is practical or useful.

Skills-based – requires people to possess various skill sets needed to bring the solution to “life”.

As you can see a person embodies the innovation or role within innovation based on their unique gift in this world. I would say that persons in this region are not thought about being unique enough and furthermore have inculcated a culture of competition, which leaves the values-based (which affects collaboration) and solution-based aspects of innovation in this region to be severely lacking.

Merging unique capabilities effectively in innovation is a must, as a competition culture believes one or a few other choices must win at the expense of… often throwing all logic through the window on such a path, which are low in all the key aspects of innovation mentioned above, hence resulting in weak innovations based on values, solutions, knowledge and skills.

So yes, great innovations are out there to be funded… however, culture and mindset are still very real factors in determining the progress of innovation along with the funds.
